Vintage Rolex: The Largest Collection in the World' is a book showcasing a vast collection of some of the rarest vintage Rolex models to exist taking 25 years to curate.
If you’ve been around our content for some time now you’ll have heard of the Vintage Watch Company. A special vintage Rolex store based on the heart of Burlington Arcade in London the VWC houses the biggest publicly shown collection of vintage Rolex watches in the world. It is a must-see spot if you’re in London. You may also remember our military style strap collaboration we released earlier this year here. To celebrate 25 years of business, David Silver has recently released a book, Vintage Rolex: The Largest Collection in the World, providing a fascinating look at some truly incredible vintage Rolex models that have come through the door over the years.

This cracking coffee table book offers readers the opportunity to travel through the full catalogue of vintage Rolex watches right from the start. From pocket watches, officer watches and rectangular mens pieces all the way through to the humble Datejust, eye-catching Day dates with their incredible gem setting (they make even the new Rainbow Daytona look tame…) and the endless pages of Submariners.

All of the watches are set out by category which is then broken up into each watch. Much like the Burlington Arcade store, the watches are then presented in date order meaning you can spend as long as you want looking at the evolution of the Explorer over 50 years, or finding your birth year watch of choice.

As you continue to flick the almost endless fantastic pages, the realisation that Rolex has such an endless history with some many rare examples is genuinely inspiring. Some of the watches shown in Vintage Rolex: The Largest Collection in the World are likely to never be seen at public auctions for a long time (if ever).
My personal favourite sections are the Day-Date and the Daytona. With the whole lineage of Rolex chronographs from 1950s triple calendar moon phase watches, to pre-Daytona and a dozen Paul Newman Daytona models, it is incredible to see how this range has evolved over the years. The Day-Date section simply shows some of the rarest Rolex watches to exist. Stella dials, completely factory gem-set dials, bezel and bracelets as well as double-signed dials - there is something here for everyone.

Remember where you left off by using the neat bookmark, which just so happens to be the same stripes and colours as one of the military styles we released with the Vintage Watch Company earlier in the year (check those out here!).
My advice would be to stick this book on your Christmas list. It is a wonderful resource to browse through and will appeal to both experts and people wanting to become more familiar with the vast Rolex models over the years.
