The weekend of the 27th to 29th March 2019 saw the return to the NEC of spring's best classic car show, and we went along to take a look at what was on offer....

According to the organisers, this year’s show was again bigger and better than ever before, with the halls having 20 per cent more space than last time. The show had more than 170 motoring clubs, around 30,000 visitors and well over 1,000 vehicles on display.

Restorer of the Year Paul Henly's 1974 Datsun 240Z on the superb Practical Classics stand

There were many awards presented during the show and I was pleased to hear that the owner of one of my favourite cars at the show, this 1974 Datsun 240Z, had been awarded the ‘Golden Spanner’ trophy, voted by Practical Classics readers as the Restorer of the Year.

Ian Thompson’s 1971 Ford Escort MK1 Mexico on the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership competition stand

Another great collection of cars was on the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership competition stand where show visitors had voted for their favourite out of the 20 cars on display. Second place went to my favourite, the 1971 Ford Escort MK1 Mexico belonging to Ian Thompson.

Another Favourite was Jane Aaron's Ford Fiesta 1300 Super Sport

If you like what you see, the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show will be back next year from Fri 27 to Sun 29 March 2020.
