Inspired by the colours of a stormy sky, Angelus has launched a new smoky blue edition of their integrated bracelet watch with the Angelus Chronodate Titanium Storm Blue.

The Angelus Chronodate collection originally made its debut at Watches & Wonders 2022, bringing back to life the aesthetic of their historic Chronodato watch from 1942. The 1940’s model made history as the world's first serially-produced full calendar chronograph and in turn helped bring attention to the Angelus brand and their Swiss-produced chronographs. A similar pattern has formed with the launch of the Angelus Chronodate, as it becomes the brand’s best-selling modern-day design.

Following on from the Angelus Chronodate watches in black, fern green, navy blue and opaline watch, the Chronodate is now introduced in a new dial colour. Named storm blue, the dial has a gorgeous soft blue hue applied with a fine matte powered effect which contrasts dramatically against the snailed metallic black chronograph sub-counters.

The dial layout for the Angelus Chronodate Titanium Storm Blue watch is a familiar sight and includes a sloped black minutes track with the trademark date ring on the perimeter, luminous syringe-shaped hour and minute hands and luminescent appliqué hour-markers. Sharp accents of red are also included on the chronograph seconds hand, pointer date hand and 30 minutes counter hand.

Splashes of red can also be spotted on the Angelus Chronodate’s chronograph push-pieces, engineered from carbon fibre composite to match with the bezel ring and central container for housing the movement. The main body of the modular, multi-structure case is machined from lightweight titanium and boasts satin-finished surfaces and polished chamfers. The bezel is also titanium and is marked by twelve notches despite being fixed in place.

The case of the Angelus Chronodate Titanium Storm Blue Edition measures to 42.5mm wide and 14.25mm thick. It presents curved box-shaped sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both the front and case back and warrants a water resistance of 30 metres. The latter could be improved since this is ultimately a sports watch. Cementing this, the design can be ordered on either a black rubber strap or a titanium Angelus bracelet.

Inside the Chronodate Titanium Storm Blue watch, Angelus has utilised their in-house chronograph movement. The calibre A-500 has been constructed by Joux-Perret based upon the architecture of the Valjoux 7750. It is automatic winding, column-wheel controlled and has a horizontal clutch. It also operates at a frequency of 28,800vph and warrants a weekend-proof power reserve of 60 hours. As mentioned, you can enjoy the movement through the model’s exhibition case back including its skeletonised, A-shaped oscillating rotor.
