Introducing Isotope’s latest marvel in horology, the Old Radium Black Ink Bronze, a timepiece that transcends the ordinary with its captivating blend of materials and impeccable craftsmanship. While stainless steel and precious metals dominate the watch world, owning a bronze watch like this one offers a distinctively unique experience. Unlike its counterparts, the bronze case of the Old Radium Black Ink Bronze will evolve over time, adapting to its environment and acquiring a character all of its own. It will oxidise, it will dull and could even develop a green patina (Verdigris). If left, this can eventually damage the surface of the metal, however, this is also easily cleaned and the original finish restored, using vinegar or lemon juice.

But owning a bronze watch is not just about aesthetics—it's about the journey. Some may prefer to maintain the pristine shine of their timepiece, while others embrace the opportunity to accelerate the patina process through unconventional means like saltwater or ammonia. I own a bronze watch myself and although I love the look of it, I admittedly hated the shine and newness of it. So, I forced it to patina with a little help from seawater, and now I really like the watch and enjoy wearing it so much more.
There is a great article on bronze watches here by Charlotte and I would implore you to read to fully understand them.

At first glance, the allure of this timepiece is undeniable. The fusion of black and bronze creates a visual symphony that resonates with timeless sophistication. It's a watch that commands attention, yet remains understated in its luxury—a true embodiment of confidence and history on your wrist.
Wearing a black watch paired with a bronze case and dial highlights exudes an undeniable charm and coolness. Wearing a black and bronze watch instils a profound sense of confidence as if wearing a piece of history on your wrist. The fusion of these two distinct colours adds depth and character to any outfit, whether casual or formal. Essentially it's a versatile accessory that effortlessly complements a wide range of styles, making it a go-to choice for any occasion.
Moreover, the unique blend of colours creates an aura of mystery and intrigue, inviting admiration and curiosity from onlookers. I’d go as far as to argue that wearing a black and bronze watch is more than just accessorising—it's an experience that combines refinement, strength, and timeless appeal, elevating the wearer's presence with every tick of the clock.

Anyway, let's delve into the composition of the case material, which is crafted from CuSn8 bronze, an alloy comprised of 92% copper, 7.7% tin, and 0.3% phosphorus. This unique blend ensures the development of a controlled patina over time, resulting in a distinctive appearance that reflects the wearer's journey. All components of the case are meticulously crafted from bronze, with the exception of the titanium case back, which provides structural support for the anti-reflective sapphire glass.
The slim epoxy enamel dial, shielded by the sapphire glass, embodies the timeless style and legibility of vintage aviator timepieces, serving as a homage to the inspiration behind the Old Radium collection. The Arabic numerals and sword hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, ensuring optimal visibility even in low-light conditions, while complementing the warm bronze hue of the case. Additionally, the inclusion of a black date window offers essential calendar information without compromising the watch's aesthetic appeal.

The titanium case back, engraved with the serial number, offers a glimpse into the heart of the timepiece—the Swiss automatic calibre Landeron 24. This reliable movement boasts a 40-hour power reserve, ensuring precise timekeeping and functionality. Together, these elements culminate in a watch that not only exudes elegance and sophistication but also pays meticulous attention to every detail, both inside and out.
Some watches forge an immediate connection with the wearer, encapsulating the essence of the brand from the moment they grace the wrist. With this timepiece, I experienced precisely that sensation. It's as if every detail was meticulously crafted to resonate with the wearer, showcasing the brand's vision and intent.

As I wore the watch, I couldn't help but marvel at the depth of thought infused into its design. From the subtle lume-tipped hands that aid in time-telling under low-light conditions to the intricate details adorning the case back—such as the nine teardrop-shaped motifs, reminiscent of Isotope's distinctive DNA—every aspect speaks volumes about the brand's commitment to excellence.
In an ever-evolving landscape of horology, witnessing brands evolve and innovate is a privilege. With each new creation, like this exquisite timepiece, we're reminded of the boundless creativity and dedication that drives the industry forward. And with individuals like José at the helm, I have no doubt that the journey of innovation and inspiration will continue unabated.
