As a promised follow-up to my article on "Best Affordable Quartz Watches" here's the sequel: "The Best Luxury Quartz Watches, Available Now"
Today, despite the (in my opinion)erroneously perceived belief that onlymechanically driven watches are a trueindicator of luxury watch ownership, thereis still a plethora of quartz-driven beautiesout there to drool over and choose from.
So, in price ascending order, I give you:
Tag Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph

An all time classic since it's inception in 1986, this diver/motorsport-themed piece is arguably one of TAG's most popular and affordable designs. The current re-launch from earlier this year is available in just a 38mm size, numerous colourways, with prices starting at £1,450
Tag Heuer Aquaracer Solargraph 'Sundowner'

I wanted to highlight just one model from each of the chosen brands but I couldn't bear to leave this out (one of my current, personal favourites), in particular the Sundowner colour way that was a collaboration between TAG and 'Time+Tide' magazine. Arguably, this also being a solar quartz, is a lot of money for what could arguably be described as 'a poshCitizen'; TAG have utilised a TH50-00 calibre that is a collaborative movement shared with La Jouz Perret (Swiss owned by Japanese mega-brand, Citizen) - the result is a stunning, robust beauty of a watch with a highly accurate and robust movement. Unfortunately the limited edition is currently no longer available, but standard models, in titanium, in 34mm and 40mm options, start at £2,050.
Grand Seiko 9F Heritage Series

Arguably defined as total class in terms of dressy/sorts models, any GS model that uses a variant of its numerous 9F modules is a sign that, for many, you are awarded the honour of being an ultimate watch fan. It's a bit like the (controversially subjective) adage: "you're never a true car fanatic until you've owned an Alfa Romeo"; does the same apply in watch circles to 'needing' to be a Grand Seiko owner that gives you the right to be a true watch fan? That's up for debate .For more on the 9F series, see Anthony's article on his own GS Heritage model, here:
The 9F-driven models are plentiful, in size and colour to suit numerous tastes and wrists, with RRPs starting from £2,100.
Breitling Emergency

As previously featured in my article about 'Desert Island' choices, the Emergency is a no-nonsense beast (ranging from 43mm to 51mm case diameters) with a novel, practical and pretty unique feature - that despite temptation to deploy, you should never use unless, literally, in an emergency . . . pull the distress beacon plug (literally) and you'll have air, sea (and/or maybe, land) rescue arrive at your precise location - do this as a test and/or for fun - expect some serious consequences! Brand new, for this thermo-compensated, chronometer level piece of chunkiness, you'll be paying from £2,950.
Cartier 'Pasha' CRWJPA0017

I could have easily placed the classic 'Tank' model within this shortlist but instead I'm drawn towards the beautifulPasha de Cartier rose gold, 35mm and diamond encrusted (all 42 of them), large crown model - and it's about time to highlight a ladies' watch for a change, me thinks. Available now from £19,400.
F.P. Journe Elegante

Available in 40mm or 48mm case sizes, the Elegante is something very special and very different. It utilises an ingeniously clever. energy saving sensor allowing a micro processor to maintain accurate timing in the background. List price of a titanium variant comes in at approx £12,450. OK, so this is cheaper than the Cartier, yet tops the list as the most expensive of the bunch highlighted here? That's because owning one of these new is near impossible unless you are lucky to find an example on the grey market - and if you are, expect to pay double the standard RRP. On a personal note, I hope any such buyers are choosing to buy these to keep and enjoy, not simply acquiring for investment reasons only. What a stunner.
Final Thoughts
There we have it, my favourite high-end quartz watches. I hope you like my list. Please comment and/or list what you would include on your own wish list below. Thank you for reading!
