I truly believe everyone should have at least one field watch in their collection. These are the watches you throw on when you need something versatile, low maintenance and durable. Something you can wholly rely on, whether you’re hiking up the Dolomites or simply mowing the lawn.

There’s plenty of great field watches to choose from; those working with some budget will likely have their sights set on the Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris or Tudor Ranger. More affordable models include the Timex Expedition and the Seiko Alpinist. But for those wanting both a Swiss made design and an accessible price point, there really is only one correct answer: the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium.
The Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium was first launched in 2020, and although no one questioned its sub £1,000 price tag and incredible H-10 movement with an 80-hour power reserve, it was clear there were a few issues with the design that prevented some potential buyers from taking the plunge. The large engraving reading ‘TITANIUM’ on the side of the case raised some eyebrows and the faux-aged lume could have been executed better. But Hamilton is clearly one to listen to its fans, because over the last couple of years, the Khaki Field Titanium has improved on its original flaws and become quite simply the best value Swiss made field watch out here.

The Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium collection is anything but limited; there’s a number of designs to choose from. Sized at 38mm or 42mm and with bare titanium or black PVD coated titanium cases, each one perfectly balances that vintage field watch aesthetic with contemporary technologies. The titanium housings are super lightweight and corrosion resistant making them easy to wear on any occasion, and this is further helped by their relatively thin height of 11.45mm.
Case finishing is well suited to the utilitarian genre, offering brushed finishing down the case sides, lugs and bezel and a traditional crown is positioned at 3 o’clock topped by a H-signed cap. While the crown isn’t screwed in, the exhibition case back is which allows for a healthy 100 metre water resistance. Sat on top is sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and between the 20mm lugs is a choice of straps including brown, taupe or dark green nubuck leather or titanium bracelets, which like their respective cases are left bare or black coated.

Beneath the glass is selection of field-inspired dial colours; those with cases of bare titanium come with dials of blue, green, black or grey while the black PVD coated models arrive with matching black displays but with varying colours used on the hands and numerals. Everything about the Khaki Field Titanium’s dial layout is designed to help you “in the field”. Legibility is excellent with Swiss Super-LumiNova used on the numerals and hands.
The Arabic numerals are kept large, sitting on a snailed backdrop and positioned beside printed minutes track with rounded indices at the five minute positions. There’s an internal 24 hour scale and stylised syringe-shaped hands for the hours and minutes. The Hamilton logo is positioned at 12 o’clock and the collection’s name is printed at 6 o’clock, leaving no empty space on the dial.

Through the sapphire crystal glass back, the Hamilton H-10 automatic winding calibre is put on display. The movement is one of the big draws for the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium; it’s not only Swiss made, based on the ETA C07.611, but it’s slowed down frequency of 21,600vph allows for a weekend-proof power reserve of 80 hours. It’s not often you’ll find a sub £1,000 watch with a power reserve this long. Finishing of the movement is simple with matte-plating and some bevelling added to the bridges. The rotor is also vertically brushed and engraved with the Hamilton logo.
All of this is why the Hamilton Khaki Field has earned its position as one of the best field watches on the market. The movement is tough to beat and the build quality is exceptional, especially with prices starting from just £920.
