The journey of CIGA design and the Blue Planet started over a decade ago with the proposition “stand out, by design” at the forefront of the brand’s direction. In 2021 the first Blue Planet watch took the world of horology by storm and won the GPHG Challenge Watch prize. An achievement that has been marked on the case back of every Blue Planet II since.
This Atlantic edition highlights the vast emptiness of the world’s second largest ocean, but also celebrates how it has connected civilisations between continents. The double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating allows an uncompromised view of the CNC engraved globe dial. The great contours of the world have been miniaturised onto the globe dial and authentically replicate the imperfect beauty of the earth’s surface. From the hights of the Andes and Rocky Mountains to the depths of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the variation in altitude on our planet can be viewed on this dial.
The innovative way of telling time is unique to CIGA design, utilising a rotating disk for the minute marker, while the hours are highlighted by a lumed compass applied to the globe dial. Another reminder of the Atlantic’s legacy of trade, travel and exploration.
The watch is powered by the Calibre CD-04-E featuring CIGA design’s Asynchronous Follow Movement technology – which can be viewed through the sapphire exhibition case back and allows the minute disk to make a 390° rotation every minute, while the central globe dial indicating hours turns only 30°. Therefore, the 00-minute marker and the compass emblem come together to mark the passing of every hour. Surrounding the globe on the minute and hour tracks are luminescent numbers that allow the wearer to easily read the time, even in total darkness.
The unmistakable case and dial design combined with the FKM rubber strap allow this watch to suit a wide range of dress styles, while ensuring it will become a talking point at any social gathering.
Each Blue Planet II is presented in a gift box created from recycled materials and formed into a book. A beautiful design that as you turn the pages, teaches you the story of CIGA design, the Blue Planet watch and then at the end of the journey, presents you with your watch.
Much of the material used in the production and packaging of the watch is either recycled or sustainably sourced. This piece serves as a reminder of not only the beauty of our planet, but more imperatively the need to protect it and to ensure that future generations can live, thrive and be surrounded by its natural beauty.
