WatchGecko Top Choice Series

Following on from our popular features highlighting watches from under £1000 and £1000 to £2000 on the WatchGecko Store, we decided to max out the budget and see what we have in store for those lucky enough to have over £2000 to spend.

We recognise this is a new stratum of design expectation and technical capability. Hence, our selection continues to represent outstanding quality for the price point with a healthy dose of innovation. Only Sinn and Aquastar meet this level in our portfolio, so here are two gems from each brand to show what £2000+ will secure for you at this technically superior level.

Sinn 856.010 UTC

Technical brilliance and tool watch style go hand in hand with Sinn. And this new 856, evolved from the bulletproof 556, is the latest model from the respected German brand.

The 856 UTC has a second-time zone on a 24-hour dial with a specially designed hand replicating the compass pointer, making the watch ideal for rudimentary solar navigation. The stainless steel case has been subjected to Sinn’s proprietary TEGIMENT Technology, making it almost scratch-resistant. Ar-Dehumidifying Technology ensures freedom from fogging. This complex process has, to date, only been found in the Sinn flagship 140 Space Watch. To complete the 856 outdoor credentials, the watch has impressive anti-magnetic properties, up to 100mT (=80,000 A/m).

The new model is powered by the Selitta SW 330-1, a self-winding mechanism with 25 bearing jewels, 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour, a seconds hacking function and an anti-magnetic rating specified in DIN 8309. The superior case and sapphire crystal glass keep out the elements, offering 200m water resistance. We all know what to expect from a Sinn; the new 856 does not disappoint.

It is hard to believe this watch hails from the same stable as the 856; it looks so different. The two models are fine examples of how varied Sinn’s design bureau can be.

The Sinn U1 S E is, in every measurable way, an impressive professional dive watch capable of surviving depths of up to 1000 metres while remaining waterproof and low-pressure resistant. It is certified by DNV and tested to European diving equipment standards EN 250/EN 14143. To give this context, each U1 watch must withstand water pressure of almost 1500 psi.

The 44mm case is made from German submarine steel, renowned for its extreme resistance to seawater and is fitted with integrated non-magnetic properties. The case and captive bezel are finished in Sinn’s Satin Black Hard Coating with TEGIMENT technology to prevent scratching.

The U1 S E is powered by a high precision self-winding Sellita SW200-1 protected movement featuring 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour and a seconds stop function.

The blocky patina effect on the hands and indices presents outstanding legibility against the black dial, and Super LumiNova ensures perfect clarity in low light. Military-grade materials and a strong tactical look allow Sinn to explore new environments with the U1.

Aquastar Deepstar 39mm Chronograph Silverline Dial BOR Bracelet

New to WatchGecko, the 39mm Deepstar Chronograph will stand out with this latest edition dial and strap. For many years, green was forgotten as a watch dial colour, but now it's back, and the Deepstar shines in this vibrant nautical colour.

The Deepstar Chronograph is a legend, now available for 2024 in a thoughtful, contemporary,  39mm case. This colour is limited to 100 pieces yearly, numbered and engraved on the case back.

The dial is a silver sunburst design with applied stainless steel indices. In keeping with its long heritage, the new Deepstar has been equipped with old light Radium Super Luminova.

A bi-directional rotating bezel on a ceramic bearing, a 316L Stainless Steel case with highly domed, AR triple-coated sapphire crystal and a multiple dive non-decompression table calculator according to the French Navy dive tables present a thoroughly professional dive package.

Powered by a Swiss Manufacture calibre with a mono-complex column wheel complication, a power reserve of 55 hours and rotor and bridges being Aquastar signed and decorated with Geneva stripes, the new 39mm is not form over function.

This unique green package is finished by adding a bespoke military nylon strap perfectly colour-coordinated with the sea green dial.

In keeping with the traditions established by the 2020 Deepstar re-edition, this 2022 release in 39mm has become a best-seller thanks to its technical superiority and dark, sophisticated looks. This model is limited to 300 pieces per year, numbered and engraved on the case back.

It sports the same technical attributes as the previous watch but looks so different due to the sunburst steel grey dial, which gives the whole watch a mechanical mono-tone look.

The principal other difference is the addition of a proprietary Stainless Steel Bead-Of-Rice (BOR) bracelet with fitted end links. BOR bracelets have fully articulated links and provide some of the best comfort for watches thanks to their ability to contour to the wrist.
