Christopher Ward has definitely been targeting more feminine wrists recently with their Twelve 36 collection. The smaller-sized, 36mm models come with arguably feminine pastel-coloured dials and in some instances, rose gold detailing. For the first time though, the British watch brand has launched their silver and rose gold-accented Alta White reference with a matching rose gold bezel.

I got hands-on with the inaugural Christopher Ward The Twelve 36 Alta White watch not all that long ago and it’s safe to say, I fell rather in love with this compact integrated sports watch. The sizing especially got a gold star from me. In an industry where men’s watches are getting smaller and women’s timepieces are growing in size, the 36mm diameter was a nice middle ground. The combination of the crisp white dial and rose gold hardware was also stunning.

The CW The Twelve 36 Alta White watch was joined by dials in Frosted Linchen, Glacier Blue and Nordic Blue. These designs kept things simple with silvered hardware and all featured classic steel 12-sided bezels. Now, for the first time, Christopher Ward’s The Twelve 36 Alta White model arrives with an 18ct rose gold bezel to match with its rose gold hardware on the dial. It’s a beautiful addition and certainly confirms my notion that CW are aiming to attract more females to the watch world.

The Christopher Ward The Twelve 36 Alta Gold watch offers all the same specifications as its former counterparts. The 18ct rose gold bezel is twelve-sided and catches the light wonderfully, contrasting against the brushed, sandblasted and polished stainless steel case and integrated bracelet. The case still opts for sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back and offers a 100 metre water resistant rating.

The Alta White dial boasts the same unique pattern as before which ingeniously duplicates CW’s plus-shaped logo to create a three-dimensional surface. In contrast, all of the dial’s hardware is crafted from rose gold with brushed finishing. The pointed hour markers and sword-shaped hour and minute hands include glow in the dark Superluminova inserts. Thankfully the date window is also still out of sight. Those that prefer date complication will need to look at the larger 40mm The Twelve models.

Turning the Christopher Ward The Twelve 36 Alta Gold watch over reveals the elaboré-finished rotor of the Sellita SW200-1 movement. The Swiss made automatic winding movement promises a 38-hour power reserve and runs at a frequency of 28,800vph. Finally, the novelty comes with the pleasing integrated metal bracelet or with a black rubber strap. Both strap options are fitted with CW’s quick release system for easy swapping.

The Twelve 36 Alta Gold is available to order now for £2,195 on the bracelet or £1,995 on the rubber strap.

  • Best characteristics of the watch: The sizing
  • The worst characteristics of the watch: Sadly, solid gold does put the price up, but that’s to be expected.
