Built on the iconic Antarctic platform, first issued for U.S. Navy Operation Deep Freeze in 1955–1956, the Antarctic Erotic White reinterprets one of Nivada Grenchen's most enduring designs. The 38mm case in polished and brushed 316L stainless steel keeps the proportions of the original: wearable all day, substantial without weight, balanced without bulk. The white dial is matte and unhurried. Applied indexes catch the light and hold Super-LumiNova (Super 7403C grade), giving clean legibility in any condition. The contrast between the bright dial, black printed text, and the warm glow of the lume at night makes this one of the most legible executions in the collection.
Flip the watch over and wind it. The animated caseback, entirely invisible from the front, comes to life through the winding motion. A cam system re-engineered within the Soprod P054 movement converts the circular crown action into a vertical animation on the sapphire-glazed caseback. No button. No battery. The motion of winding is the trigger. This follows the 18th-century watchmaking tradition of the "erotic automata": private, mechanical tableaux designed not to be shown, but discovered.
The penguin motif on the caseback is not decorative fancy. Nivada Grenchen officially patented it in 1965, making it one of the few watch brand emblems with a registered archival patent. It connects directly to the Antarctic's polar roots, and to decades of field use in conditions extreme enough to test any movement.
Inside: the Soprod P054 manual-winding movement, re-engineered in-house to drive both timekeeping and the animation mechanism simultaneously without affecting power reserve or reliability. The movement beats at its original frequency, the animation adds no meaningful weight, and the screw-down crown maintains the 10 ATM water resistance rating unchanged.
Each Antarctic Erotic White ships in a custom faux-fur watch roll inspired by the collection's polar heritage, complete with a matching travel pouch.
