Discover elegance with purpose. The Lhotse is a nod to expedition watches of old, infused with modern precision and robustness.
Engineered for real life, designed to tell a story
Every Ocean to Orbit watch is conceived with a narrative in mind. Founders David Dewitt and Siddhartha Kazami, both former automotive designers, launched the brand from Melbourne in late 2020. Their vision: to create mechanical timepieces that combine daily practicality with the spirit of exploration.
The first model - the Lhotse - is named after the world’s fourth-highest peak, echoing the brand’s ambition to craft watches that work as well in extreme environments as they do in everyday settings. In fact, a prototype Lhotse accompanied Nepali mountaineer Purnima Shrestha to high-altitude climbs, validating the design’s resilience under harsh conditions.
Heritage Steel Version - What Sets It Apart
While the Lhotse platform offers a common foundation of strength and wearability, the Heritage Steel stands out with subtle vintage flair and warm detailing - ideal for those who want a bit of personality without compromising utility.
-
Gilt accents for character
The applied indices, hands, and minute track are accented in warm gilt tones. This antique-style contrast adds visual depth while preserving legibility—especially under changing lighting. -
Proportions built for comfort
At 38.50 mm diameter, 47 mm lug-to-lug, and just ~11.50 mm in height, the Heritage Steel maintains the Lhotse’s balanced dimensions, allowing it to wear comfortably on most wrists without feeling bulky. -
Swiss mechanical heart
Under the hood is the Swiss-made STP 1-21 automatic movement (no date), delivering ~40 hours of reserve, smooth 4 Hz operation, hacking, and manual winding. This clean, no-date layout gives the dial a symmetrical, uncluttered appearance. -
Durability in daily use
With 100 m water resistance, screw-down crown, and a domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating, this version is ready for rain, splash, or everyday wear.
The case’s brushed surfaces, soft chamfers, and polished bevels strike a balance between ruggedness and sophistication. -
Versatility in styling
The Heritage Steel model ships on a 316L stainless steel bracelet (screw-pin links, micro-adjustments) and pairs compatibly with straps. This allows you to switch between formal and sportier looks with zero compromise. -
Distinctive hands that tell a story
Rather than generic hands, the Lhotse uses a signature design: the hour hand evokes a rocket, the minute a fuel capsule, and the second hand / counterbalance a re-entry module — subtle cues tying back to the Ocean-to-Orbit ethos.
Why Choose the Heritage Steel?
-
Character without compromise
The gilt detailing adds warmth and vintage inspiration without sacrificing legibility or performance. -
Fully capable in real-world use
Water resistant, sapphire crystal, robust case architecture — this is a watch meant to travel with you. -
Designed from experience
With founders from automotive design backgrounds, every curve, bevel, and proportion is intentional - the Heritage Steel expresses a refined execution of the Lhotse identity. -
A watch with a story
This isn’t just another watch - it’s part of the Ocean to Orbit journey, where design, performance and narrative intersect.
About Ocean To Orbit
Founded in 2020 by David Dewitt and Siddhartha Kazami, Ocean to Orbit brings together over 35 years of design experience from the automotive industry. Their philosophy is simple: to create watches that are aesthetically balanced, mechanically sound, and emotionally engaging.
Each model is built as a design exercise in proportion and purpose - functional enough for explorers, but refined enough for collectors. Prototypes have even accompanied Nepali mountaineer Purnima Shrestha on Himalayan ascents, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to making watches that work beyond the drawing board.
