With two best-selling GMT watches under their belt, namely the Globetrotter GMT and Venture GMT, BOLDR's latest foray into multi-zone timepieces is a slender 'true' GMT diver watch known as the Odyssey Freediver GMT. This adventure-centric dive watch is sturdily built to take on rough environments as competently as it augments formal attire. One of the first to offer the Miyota 9075 movement in a sub £1K 'true' GMT watch.
BOLDR's first GMT dive watch is the latest member of its Odyssey Freediver series, albeit with exciting new updates. At a new 44mm size with 12.5mm thickness (without sapphire glass), it houses a 'true' GMT movement in a 300m water-resistant surgical steel case. The case is satin finished with polished edges on its signature angular lugs. Building on previous versions of BOLDR Odysseys, the updated slimmer profile lends a sleek, elegant touch that blurs the lines between adventure and professionalism.
Included with every model are essential accessories to complement your watch. You'll receive a stainless steel bracelet and a Druber® strap, each equipped with quick-release functions for effortless strap changes.
Powering the watch is a Miyota 9075 caliber, a hi-beat 'true' GMT movement that ticks at a formidable 28000 bph. Offering seamless timekeeping, the watch is ideal for travellers and those who wish to track more than one timezone. Adjusting the watch in various locales is a breeze by 'jumping' the hour hand in its first crown position, independent of the GMT and minute hand. This keeps uncompromised timing as it does not interfere with the running movement, while the date also corrects itself either forward or in retrograde as the hour hand is wound.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the watch is its dial, designed with a gradient effect inspired by varying light activity visible to a submerged diver. A translucent dial centre alludes to being closer to the surface, getting darker towards the dial edges to signify increasing ocean depth. The translucent centre was a key design detail as outlined by the brand: "While sketching the design of the Freediver GMT, we wanted fans to feel its mechanical vibe by subtly displaying the movement without drawing focus away from the hands, indexes, and the new indexed inner ring", remarks Danny Guzzi, Design Lead.
The watch face is also kept in balance by a custom date window that sits level with the eye-line between 4 and 5 o'clock for better readability.
Founder Leon Leong remarks, "The Freediver GMT release is an exciting milestone for BOLDR. We've been waiting for the right opportunity to create a sub-1K 'true' GMT watch and worked diligently to deliver a high-quality product. Now that we're one of the first to utilize the Miyota 9075 workhorse movement, our dream is finally a reality."
As with all classic sports timepieces, the combination of dive-ready and travelling credentials makes the Freediver GMT an adventurer's trusted companion. Fitted with a scratch-resistant two-tone ceramic bezel, divers can utilize the 120-click unidirectional wheel for tracking elapsed time underwater while travellers monitor up to three time zones. The bezels come in three classic colour options: black moss green, black chocolate brown, and black crimson red.
The case back features custom artwork of the Cuvier's beaked whale, depicted as having a wonderful time surfing a series of waves. The artwork was inspired by the famous Japanese Great Wave of Kanagawa, reflecting the brand's tribute to its powerful Japanese Miyota movement and the blissful freedom of being in the ocean.
