How do I know if my watch is 20mm?

To determine if your watch requires a 20mm watch strap, you need to measure the lug width, which is the inner distance between the two metal lugs where the strap attaches to the watch case.

Quick ways to verify

  • Measure using a ruler or calipers in millimetres. If the distance is exactly 20mm, your watch requires a 20mm strap.
  • Check the back of your current strap, as many have the size stamped on the underside.
  • Search your watch model online and review the technical specifications.
  • Measure your existing strap at the point where it connects to the watch.

Pro tip
20mm is a standard size. If your measurement is slightly smaller, such as 19mm, a 20mm strap will likely be too wide to fit properly.

Will a 20mm strap fit a watch with 19mm or 21mm lugs?

It depends which way the mismatch goes.

19mm lugs (strap is 1mm too wide)

Yes, and this is the approach most collectors take. The strap flexes slightly to fill the gap and sits flush against the case. It works well on leather, nylon and rubber; stiffer materials like hard leather or crocodile may develop stress marks at the edges.

21mm lugs (strap is 1mm too narrow)

It will fit, but there will be a small visible gap on either side where the strap meets the case. The spring bars hold securely, but the extra sideways movement puts more stress on the spring bar holes over time.

For either scenario, a correctly sized strap is always the better result. For more detail, see our guide: Odd sized lug widths – advice for 19mm and 21mm watches.

What types of 20mm watch straps do you have?

We stock 20mm straps across a wide range of materials and styles:

  • Leather, classic and premium styling, from everyday to dress
  • Suede, soft-finish leather for a more casual, textured look
  • Rubber, water-resistant and flexible, including sailcloth straps for a nautical-inspired finish
  • Canvas, lightweight and relaxed, suited to field and casual watches
  • Military nylon, durable and lightweight for everyday wear
  • Metal Bracelets, including solid link and mesh styles for a more refined look

Are these straps adjustable after purchase?

Most WatchGecko Omega watch straps are adjustable after purchase.

Metal mesh straps often feature sliding clasps for tool free sizing. Stainless steel bracelets typically allow links to be removed. Many leather and nylon styles include quick release spring bars for easy strap changes and in some cases micro adjustment features.

Will this strap fit watches with drilled or solid lugs?

Yes. Our 20mm watch straps are compatible with both drilled and solid lugs.

Many styles feature quick release spring bars for easy installation and removal, making them suitable regardless of your watch’s lug type.

Do you offer 20mm straps in premium leather?

Yes, we offer a wide range of 20mm straps in premium leather.

Options include smooth calf leather, vintage pull up leather, suede, padded dress styles, rally straps and crocodile embossed finishes. Many designs feature contrast stitching, tapered profiles and soft linings for added comfort.

Do your 20mm straps fit quick release spring bars?

Many of our 20mm straps are available with quick release spring bars, which let you swap straps without any tools. Check the individual product description to confirm – it will be listed if the option is available.

If a strap uses standard spring bars instead, you'll need a spring bar tool to fit it. These are straightforward to use and worth having in your kit. Our guide to essential watch tools covers the spring bar tool and what else to keep to hand.

What size spring bars do I need for a 20mm watch strap?

For a 20mm strap, you need 20mm spring bars, the width must match the lug width of your watch.

The more important variable is thickness. Standard spring bars are 1.5mm in diameter and suit most everyday straps. Heavier straps, thick leather, rubber dive straps and metal bracelets, benefit from fat or heavy duty spring bars, which are less likely to flex or fail under extra weight and tension.

If you're fitting a WatchGecko quick release strap, the spring bars come pre-installed, so no tools are needed. For standard spring bars, you'll need a spring bar tool to fit and remove them safely. Our guide to essential watch tools covers what to look for.

Do 20mm straps fit Seiko, Hamilton, Tudor and other popular watches?

Yes, the Tudor Black Bay 58 has a 20mm lug width, making it a natural fit for our full range of 20mm straps.

Other popular watches with 20mm lugs include the Hamilton Khaki Field (38mm case) and the Seiko SKX013. If you own a larger Seiko 5 Sports or SKX007/009, those take a 22mm strap rather than 20mm, so it's always worth confirming your lug width before ordering.
