Yes its true. After 67 years of faithful service in some of the harshest places on Earth, Rolex have discontinued the Milgauss today.

First introduced in 1956 the Milgauss was resistant to 1000 Gauss of magnetic force thanks to the use of non-ferrous inner components and a shield akin to a Faraday Cage which pushes disruptive magnetic currents around the watch rather than through it.

The name comes from the French mille, or one-thousand, and a Gauss is a unit of a magnetic field force. The original Milgauss was very much a Rolex tool watch with the model we all know today arriving in 2007. It has always been synomsmous with bold indices, orange accents and the famous lightening bolt seconds hand. We salute one of the cooler Rolexes.

Lets hope this is a temporary absence and we see a revised Milgauss again in the not too distant future.
