Sinn Watches are back for Munichtime 2018 with some solid releases...

The summer is over, it's the end of October and that means only one thing, winter new watch season is here! Munichtime is held annually at the end of October with many brands across all ends of the horology spectrum from more affordable brands such as Laco, Seiko, Tudor, Oris and Hanhart all the way up to A. Lange & Söhne, Czapek & Corum announcing new models.

One of the most popular brands for our readers we're focusing on today is Sinn. Ben and I got some great hands-on time with the latest Sinn models at Baselworld this year and I was impressed, so I was pretty excited when their next press release popped up in my email inbox...

Sinn 104 Updates

The 104 range from Sinn is an immensely popular model for the brand. The 104 is a staple in the Sinn range down to its 41mm case size, with an 11.5mm thickness and classic styling the watch was always bound for popularity. Combine this with a very competitive price point (approx £1,500) and having it powered by the Sellita SW220-1 (perfect for affordable servicing) and you're left with a winner.

Sinn continues to build on the 104 range success with the first of two new 104 watches. The first being the 104 St Sa I A. This new 104 has all the benefits of the current 104 we know so well, but is now available with a new anthracite electroplated grey dial complete with sunburst effect. Once again we find those elegant syringe hands, distinctive seconds hand, day date function at 3 o 'clock and bi-directional pilots bezel.

This is not the first time we have seen grey dials making an appearance in new releases with the likes of Breitling also announcing the Premier Automatic available in the same anthracite grey dial option as well as the Geckota K-01 Pilots Watch and new Geckota G-01 Dark Grey.

The second new version of the 104 is a dark blue dial. Once again it has the sunburst finish. I think this edition is the most striking with the contrast of the black bezel making for a watch that almost guarantees a second glance. Both new 104 A and B models are available with a choice of two metal bracelets, and a couple of two-piece straps options. The anthracite grey is available with a dark brown leather or Alcantara strap option. The B dial option is also available with two metal bracelets, the same chocolate brown strap and a light brown leather with black stitching.

It's always great to see Sinn show some love and see the value in offering watch on different straps.

I think Sinn has introduced some nice looking additions here to an already successful range. And in their own words:

'This series has a clearly structured look which makes it easy to read the time, date and day of the week: these are classic pilot watches in the time-honoured SINN tradition. You can see why they are among the best-loved timepieces we produce.'

Hard to argue with that...

Sinn U1 B

'The diving watch made of German Submarine Steel with blue dial.'

The Sinn U1 is everything you'd ever need from a true tool watch. Its Tegiment technology used on the case of the watch means it's extremely scratch resistant, the diver's bezel is virtually impossible to detach from the watch, it's 44mm case width with large handset and indices makes for an incredibly legible piece.

The cases main material is high strength German submarine steel meaning its extremely seawater-resistant and also possesses the highest level of non-magnetic properties. Oh, and it's water resistant to 1,000m. So essentially anything you put it through, it will be able to do with its eyes closed.

This new model brings a blue colourway to the U1 range. A nice touch is that the bezel still remains in the same colourway we find on the red detailed existing model. Something which is a smart move in my eyes as it adds just the right amount of contrast to the piece.

Once again Sinn looks after its customers with three rubber straps to chose from as well as a metal bracelet. For me, it has to be the metal bracelet the scratch resistant properties make it a must-have. That way you when you want to update your new Sinn watch you can take a look at our wide range of replacement watch straps.

1800 DAMASZENER

This last release from Sinn is a really interesting one. Limited to just 100 pieces, this new 1800 DAMASZENER is made of Damascus steel. Damascus steel is a material made of two different types of steel. The special characteristic of this material is brought out by surface etching, which reveals an organic pattern of light and dark stripes, very reminiscent of unique wood fibres found in wood grains. The result is an incredibly unique looking, special piece.

Another interesting point is that the dial on the DAMASZENER is not designed as a separate component. Instead, Sinn has milled the dial and central part of the watch from a complete steel block. This means that the Damascus pattern on the dial continues across the entire case, not bad at all. Damascus steel has also been used on the crown and bezel.

The watch will be available with a light brown leather strap with black stitching or a black vintage look cowhide leather, also with black stitching.

Smart moves from Sinn

Once again I'm left with an overriding pleasant feeling after seeing these new Sinn releases. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them at Baselworld this year and it's nice to see some solid follow up releases to end the year nicely. It's a shame I won't be able to make it to MunichTime this year to get some real hands-on time with them. Maybe next year...

Update

As writing this piece, Sinn has also just announced that they will also be exhibiting at the Inhorgenta Munich trade fair in February 2019, check out what they had to say below:

'High-quality mechanical watch manufacturer Sinn Spezialuhren from Frankfurt am Main will be making its debut at the event. 1,026 exhibitors from 42 countries will come together in six halls to welcome the 27,000 or so trade visitors expected from over 70 countries.

Up until now, Sinn Spezialuhren has always welcomed established retailers and press representatives to its stand every year exclusively at Baselworld. Now the company is going one step further by exhibiting at the Munich trade fair. A step based on the company’s firm belief that industry events such as the Inhorgenta are hugely important for mutual exchange – especially in an era where digital channels are increasingly defining communications and interaction.'
