Oris is truly a place where Swiss precision meets undeniable style. If you’ve ever found yourself drooling over a beautifully crafted watch with practical features to match, chances are you’ve come across ORIS. This brand isn’t just about telling time; it’s about telling a story. Established in 1904 in the quaint village of Hölstein, Switzerland, Oris has been synonymous with mechanical excellence for over a century.
But what really sets Oris apart in a sea of luxury timepieces? Well, for starters, Oris remains fiercely independent, a rare gem in an industry dominated by huge corporations. Their commitment to creating only mechanical watches means each piece is a work of art, with a heartbeat all its own. From the depths of the ocean to the dizzying heights of aviation, Oris has a watch for every kind of adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just someone who appreciates a good-looking watch, Oris offers a blend of heritage, innovation, and style that’s hard to resist.
In the first of what I’m sure will be many announcements over the course of 2024’s Geneva Watch Days, Oris have today launched a duo of new novelties and first up is a new chronograph rendition of their beloved Aquis model. Having released the newly revamped Aquis Date collection earlier this year, fans of the popular Swiss brand will be pleased to hear they have yet again taken to the drawing room to expand their well-loved Aquis collection.
Oris Aquis Chronograph, 43.50mm
Appearing for the first time with a ‘smiley face’, or technically speaker sub-counters at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, the new chronograph features near-identical technical specifications to its siblings already thriving in the new Aquis Date collection. Housed in a smart, and lighter than before, 43.50mm multi-piece stainless steel case with uni-directional rotating bezel and ceramic insert, the new Aquis Chronograph is also equipped with a stainless screw-in security crown and pushers. Offering an impressive 30 bar (300m) water-resistance as well as a 62-hour power reserve, this Aquis is equipped with the Oris 771 movement. Presented with centre hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds subsidiary dials for continuous seconds as well as 30-minute and 12-hour counters, fine timing device and a stop-seconds function the new addition to the line-up is not only sophisticated and sleek but proves to be extremely practical.
The fun doesn’t stop there though, as a second limited-edition reference has been unveiled in collaboration with France’s Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and the French association of children’s charities (CNAPE).
Oris x LFP Divers Sixty-Five Limited Edition
Opting to make “real change” rather than simply “sticking logos on things” and calling it a day, the Oris x LFP limited-edition is a joyful iteration of Oris’ popular Divers Sixty-Five model. The 1,000-piece LFP edition has a number of special features inspired by the CNAPE including a script typeface that captures the innocence of a child’s handwriting. The new script replaces Oris’ own traditional logo as well as the water-resistance information (10 bar or 100metres, as is standard for Divers Sixty-Five models) which appears in a rainbow of colour.
Not to detract from the Swiss quality and precision Oris are known for, the watch otherwise is an ordinary 38mm Divers Sixty-Five Date model complete with uni-directional rotating bezel, a minutes scale in relief, screw-in security crown and lumed hands and hour markers. Nifty, right? All of this is powered by the Oris Automatic Calibre 733 which provides a generous 41-hour power reserve and a date function at 6 o’clock.
