From the somewhat routine annual ordering of a birthday cake to the most quirky and unique ways of honouring milestones, we all have traditions when it comes to the celebration of big life events. Oris, it seems, are no different.
Each year for the past five years, the team behind Oris have released a special edition watch to mark the occasion. With their 120th birthday having happened on the first day of June 2024, the Swiss brand proudly presents a full black-on-black rendition of their popular Divers Sixty-Five model.

Founded in the Swiss village of Hölstein 120 years ago, Oris have come a long way since their conception, building a reputation for their high-quality Swiss Made mechanical watches. Having developed an impressive 280 mechanical calibres in-house over the years, the Hölstein Edition 2024 is to be equipped with the latest of these inventions, the Calibre 400 Series.
The point of Oris’ Holstein editions, now a five-year tradition, is to provide brand enthusiasts with a watch that would otherwise never appear in the Oris catalogue. This year’s Hölstein edition will be the first of its kind for a few reasons. It’s the first version of the design with a regular bezel to incorporate Calibre 400 and the first ever full black-on-black watch ever made by the company. Housed in a 40mm stainless steel case, the bezel and crown of this year’s Hölstein are plated in black DLC (diamond-like carbon). Naturally, the hands, hour markers, dial text, date wheel and lume are also presented in black, as is the strap, which has been crafted from rubber and adorned with a black-DLC-plated buckle.

For the first time on a Divers Sixty-Five watch, the typical 12-hour scale has been foregone in favour of pairing a regular bezel with a minutes scale. Its Calibre 400 provides an impressive five-day power reserve and enhanced levels of anti-magnetism, as well as water-resistance to 10 bar (100 metres).
Limited to just 250 pieces, the Hölstein 2024 marks a ‘fullstop’ in Oris’ story as they turn the page and begin a new chapter built on 120 years of rich Swiss heritage. The limited-edition number of each piece is engraved on the caseback, alongside the charming Oris Bear who has been kitted out in flowery swim trunks and sunglasses to reflect the summer season.
