Baltic are back with an exciting new twist on their beloved Aquascaphe...
The well-loved microbrand Baltic today announced they have equipped its flagship diving model with a Swiss Soprod C125 movement to offer a new watch available in three variations: The Aquascaphe GMT. Thanks to the fourth hand, the time is displayed in 24-hour format over several time zones at a glance. This new release offers an authentic tool watch designed to equip modern globetrotters around the world.
The Aquascaphe GMT is equipped with a new 24 clicks bi-directional rotating bezel. It allows users to directly read a third time zone thanks to the fourth hand on the dial. It rotates over the 24 time zones in both directions. The blue part displays the night hours; the grey part displays the day hours. It features a sapphire insert, a resistant material that provides increased protection against shocks and scratches.
The black dial and the Super-Luminova on the indexes ensure optimal readability in the dark. The shapes used (circles and triangles) offer a clear and easy reading of the time. The "glossy" finish reinforces the elegance of the watch while adding depth to the dial. Baltic uses a Swiss movement from the SOPROD manufacture for its GMT: the C125. This self-winding movement has a power reserve of 42 hours, a date and a GMT function. Chosen especially for its robustness and reliability, it confers on the Aquascaphe GMT optimum precision, regardless of the environment in which it is used.
The first models of the Aquascaphe GMT will be numbered from 1 to 600. Each watch can be recognized by its number, unique for each model. It completes an engraving inspired by the different time zones present on earth.

First Impressions
These watches are the epitome of the great work Baltic has been doing for these past few years. First things first, let’s just stop for a moment and appreciate how attractive these little 39mm watches are. There is a satisfying coherence when looking at them which makes sense when you learn that Baltic have been planning and developing this GMT ever since they first released the original Aquascaphe two years ago.
I’ll hold my hands up and say the watch community isn’t an easy one to satisfy. Everyone who buys watches has such a personal connection to the creation they decide to wear on their wrist which can make it tricky to offer the ‘perfect watch’ for many. But Baltic have given themselves a fighting chance by designing watches that are hard to hate. Just based on the images, there isn’t really a feature or design aspect of the watch that stands out as being potentially jarring to collectors. This, combined with a solid Swiss mechanical GMT movement, a sapphire bezel insert, wearable dimensions and a manageable selection of variations it is hard not to see these Aquascaphe GMT’s flying off the shelf...
