What are sailcloth watch straps made from?

WatchGecko sailcloth straps use a woven textile for the outer surface, combined with a waterproof backing. The woven upper face gives the strap its distinctive texture and structure, while the backing helps protect it from water and everyday wear.

What is the difference between sailcloth and sailcloth-look straps?

Some straps marketed as sailcloth use a printed or textured surface rather than a woven textile. WatchGecko sailcloth straps use a woven outer face bonded to a waterproof backing, giving them a distinctive texture and construction.

Are sailcloth watch straps waterproof?

Yes. The strap is designed to handle rain, washing up, swimming and other everyday water exposure. After prolonged submersion, allow the strap to dry fully before wearing it again.

The water resistance of the watch itself should always be checked before swimming or other water activities.

How durable is a sailcloth watch strap?

The woven upper face and waterproof backing are designed for regular everyday wear and exposure to water. The construction helps the strap retain its structure and appearance over time. WatchGecko sailcloth straps are also covered against manufacturing defects.

Do sailcloth watch straps need a break-in period?

No. Sailcloth straps are designed to be flexible and comfortable from the first wear, without the break-in period associated with some leather straps.

Will a sailcloth watch strap fit my wrist?

Each strap adjusts from approximately 130mm to 180mm across eight holes, covering a wide range of wrist sizes. Check the individual product specifications for the exact adjustment range before ordering.

How do I know which sailcloth strap size I need?

Check the lug width of your watch in millimetres. This is the distance between the inside edges of the lugs where the strap fits. Choose the strap width that matches your watch from the available sizes.

If you're unsure how to measure your watch's lug width, see our guide to measuring lug width.

Do sailcloth watch straps come with quick-release spring bars?

Every strap comes fitted with quick-release spring bars, allowing you to change the strap without specialist tools. Prefer standard spring bars? The quick-release bars are easy to remove, as shown in our video tutorial.

What buckle options are available?

Sailcloth straps come with a brushed stainless steel pin buckle as standard, with a black IP-plated option available on selected colourways. Both are signed with the WatchGecko logo.

How do I care for a sailcloth watch strap?

Wipe the strap clean with a damp cloth when needed and allow it to dry fully after prolonged exposure to water. Unlike leather, sailcloth does not require conditioning or waterproofing treatments.
