Seiko’s Presage collection has long been a canvas for showcasing traditional Japanese craftsmanship, and the brand’s latest release might be one of its most striking to date. Introducing the Seiko Presage Classic Series Unglazed Arita Porcelain Limited Edition — a watch that blends centuries-old ceramic artistry with modern mechanical watchmaking in a refreshingly tactile way.
Limited to just 1,200 pieces worldwide, this new Presage model features a dial made from genuine Arita porcelain — specifically, the unglazed, high-fired variety that reveals the porcelain’s natural warm white tone. The matte texture not only evokes the traditional look of early Arita ware but also highlights the fine three-dimensional ridges that criss-cross the dial. These sharply cut facets catch the light differently depending on the angle, adding real depth and detail to the dial without any need for colour or gloss.
What is Arita porcelain?
Porcelain production in Arita began back in the 17th century, after kaolin clay was first discovered in the region. Over the following 400 years, Arita became a centre for high-end ceramics — known for its refined finishes, intricate shapes, and evolving production techniques. Seiko has drawn on this history before, but this is the first time they’ve showcased the unglazed material in a watch dial, giving collectors a rare chance to see Arita porcelain in its rawest form.

Mechanical performance
Powering the watch is the in-house 6R51 automatic calibre, a dateless movement that offers a strong 72-hour power reserve and keeps time to within -15/+25 seconds per day. It’s a movement we’ve come to trust for reliability and wearability, and here it feels like a perfect pairing — understated but solid.
Water resistance is rated to 100 metres, which is generous for a watch in this category, especially given the porcelain dial and elegant proportions. It’s very much a daily wearer if you want it to be.
Finishing touches
A glossy black leather strap gives the watch a dressier edge, contrasting nicely with the organic matte dial. It’s sustainably sourced and certified by the Leather Working Group — a subtle but welcome touch for those paying attention to responsible production.
Seiko has framed this release as a gender-neutral design, and it certainly fits the bill. The proportions are classic, the finishing is clean, and the overall look is quietly distinctive — a refined piece for anyone drawn to traditional Japanese materials and Seiko’s mechanical know-how.
