In the third of a series of four new product releases to date in 2020, Bremont has announced the launch the new ALT1-P2 JET.
This watch is based on the popular ALT1-P2 pilot’s watch which is widely regarded as a definitive aviation chronograph. The ‘P’ in the original ALT1 name stands for Pilot leaving no misconceptions as to the intended end use of the model. Bremont’s heritage is steeped in aviation history so it is no surprise that such a dedicated instrument would be in their portfolio.

In addition to the original features of the ALT1 the new JET offers a deep black hardened Diamond Like Coating (DLC) case to compliment the black dial. This is the first DLC-coated case in the ALT1 model line and to continue the theme the reverse of the case now has a smoked crystal case back with black rotor. The hands, indices and date are a striking vintage beige colour which is branded as Bremont’s iconic ’51 lume’. This unique Super-LumiNova finish was first offered on the Bremont P-51 and offers excellent clarity and legibility.
Passionate about celebrating British engineering and innovation Bremont has teamed up with radical aviation pioneers Gravity Industries, who make wearable jet suits, to put the new ALT1-P2 JET through its paces.

Dubbed the “real-life Iron Man”, Richard Browning is a British inventor and entrepreneur who founded Gravity Industries in 2017, a company which has grown from humble beginnings into a multi-million-dollar organisation, now with military contacts. Browning’s ingenious Gravity Jet Suit uses several miniature jet engines to achieve flight. He achieved a speed of 85 miles per hour (135 km/h) with the suit during a Guinness World Records attempt in late 2019 claiming the title of ‘Fastest speed in a body controlled jet engine powered suit’.

A personal perspective:
The original ALT1-P2 is a striking watch and the JET variant only enhances the model look. It is like a Stealth variant paying homage to ground-breaking vehicles like the SR71 Blackbird and the F117 Nighhawk. Other than the bold “51” lume the dial itself differs little from the P2 Black model, but the overall package looks much more striking when housed in a DLC finish case. DLC is becoming much more common as black watches as on-trend and this coating process is super robust and does not scratch easily.
The gem in this watch though is the reverse, with the smoked crystal back and the black rotor. The whole movement appears dark through this glass giving the flipside of the watch an almost sinister appearance; like some powerful machine which mere mortals who do not fly with jet packs are not meant to see. It’s a very clever touch which fundamentally changes the whole appearance of the case back.

Considering the JET edition is only £200 more than the ALT1-P2 Black you may struggle to think of a good reason to buy the original model now. The JET is, in every measurable way, the more eye-catching watch and its testing link to Gravity Industries makes it even more desirable.
