For the first time in fifteen years, we are excited to hear news that Schofield is releasing a brand new design. Schofield’s watches have been made with the same case shape and dimensions for almost two decades, but with the introduction of a new general purpose field watch, the Light,  we are set to see the unveiling of a complete re-design in two new colours. The Light arrives in a neat 40mm case but is just as detailed, skillfully made and no less complex than its predecessors. Schofield have taken a huge amount of inspiration from lighthouses over the past fifteen years and the two new watches continue to reflect the brands fascination. Channeling the “austerity, endurance and precision” of these towering beacons, Schofield builds their watches for reliability and functionality with subtle military flair.

The Light will be available in two distinct colour ways, The Light One and The Dark One and both will be powered by an automatic, mechanical Seiko movement with 24hr GMT. The Light takes its name, not only from its design, but from its price point. It is set to be the least expensive watch Scofield has ever released. The Beam-of-Light logo has been proudly used throughout the design on both colour ways, firstly in the crown, then on the dial and the case back. Despite it being ‘light’ in size, Schofield guarantees that this is a general field watch that is a fit companion for any adventure. Whether you plan to climb to the top of a lighthouse or not, the Light is ready and able to come on the journey with you. Its military cues – boxed sapphire crystal, high contrast, monochrome colour ways, asymmetrical dial print, full numerical hour index and a crown at 4, matt finishing, and robust strap and buckle - are what separate it from the broad category of general field watches that it naturally falls within.

A heavy box sapphire crystal has been mounted in a bezel that is vertically brushed to catch the light. Similarly to the larger models that have come before it, the strap on the Light is rebated under a lip, this creates an integrated feel and ensures it sits comfortably on all wrist sizes. Another specification that allows this to stand out from other Schofield models is the crown at 4 o’clock and “wheel arches” machined into the case above which act as crown protectors. The case back is meticulously printed on the inside of a mineral crystal and the artwork (lighthouse, horizon and twinkling stars that catch the light perfectly) has tiny display openings through to the movement. Aside from the bezel, the whole case has a gorgeous matt finish. The Dark One is PVD coated in gunmetal grey and both cases have further anti-fingerprint coatings to ensure the wear is long lasting and the quality is timeless.
