Together Formex Swiss Made Watches and Collective Horology are proud to introduce the Formex REEF Radiant Bronze for Collective.

This 300m water resistant diver is a standard REEF with a twist. It features a vertically brushed bronze dial that changes character as it reflects light. Asher Rapkin, co-founder of Collective, explains, “for years, we’ve admired Formex for their commitment to material exploration and technical innovation. Because they manufacture many of their own components – including cases, dials, bracelets and clasps – the brand is able to push the limits of watchmaking further than many other independent brands.

When the Formex and Collective teams met at the 2022 Windup Watch Fair in Chicago, both were eager to pursue a special project together. In particular, Collective was keen to co-develop a watch that would resonate with enthusiasts by showcasing Formex’s distinct manufacturing capabilities.

Just a few months later in New York, Raphael Granito, CEO of Formex, presented the Collective team with a prototype: a REEF diver with a radiant in-house manufacture bronze dial. Destined to become a true collector’s piece.

Bronze is traditionally used for cases, but Formex have deployed it to create the dial of this special edition. A bespoke lacquer on the dial base stops the natural oxidation of the material and allows the dial to retain its beautiful radiant glow over time.

Given the rarity of bronze dials, Formex had to first develop its own processes and tooling in order to machine the dial blanks. Next, the team experimented with finishing in order to identify the best approach to highlight the unique properties of the alloy. After many trials, they settled on vertical brushing, which allows the dial to take on a variety of rich and vibrant hues depending on light sources and the angles from which it’s viewed. Finally, the dial is treated with a proprietary lacquer to prevent oxidation, ensuring it retains its original coloration.

The Formex REEF Radiant Bronze for Collective is of course a fully functional professional dive watch and features a 120-click, unidirectional black ceramic bezel, interchangeable bezel system, quick-release system for all strap options, gradual micro-adjustment system, and COSC-certified Sellita SW300-1 automatic movement with 56 hours of power reserve. It is available on either a stainless-steel bracelet or rubber strap.

This unique edition is produced in limited quantities exclusively for Collective Shop. The first 50 will be available this year, with a limited number available for purchase now from Collective Shop online.

Please Note: this model will NOT be available in the UK and can only be secured via the above outlet.
