In the safe and technically adept hands of Sébastien Muller, a fourth-generation watchmaker, Brellum has gained a reputation for innovative designs with a distinctly recognisable pilot chrono DNA with supreme attention to detail.
Sébastien gained his experience over 25 years working in production for large brands until he felt the drive to create his first watch. The result was the now-famous Brellum Duobox, which remains the cornerstone of the portfolio. The word Brellum sounds mechanical, like the brand for a critical machine; however, the name was conceived from a B, for Sébastien’s town of birth, Bonfol, and the family name Muller in reverse.

The Brellum logo is located somewhere on all watches. It is a mythological beast called a Wyvern—a dragon-like creature which could generate light. And on the latest creation, we find it on the rotor generating the power for a new watch.

As with all, Brellum engineering is at the heart of the machine. The latest creation is a timepiece that marries the functional design we have expected, but now with dark black aesthetics.
The Pandial is limited to 33 pieces worldwide and is coated in a full Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC) finish. DLC coating is used in all engine, machine, and aviation industries for increasing mechanical resistance to materials. The hard layer is applied through a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition process and is allergy-free and environmentally friendly. DLC coating has many advantages for watches; the hardness of the surface is increased to approximately 800 Vickers. This is quite a feat when considering regular stainless steel is around 240 Vickers.

The black opaline dial is accented with luminescent indices, ensuring effortless legibility even in the lowest light. The watch also features a tachymeter on the outer-black bezel and a 12-hour chronometer, empowering its wearer to command time with authority.
Powering this watch is a Swiss icon – the venerable Valjoux 7750.

The movement can be seen through Brellums normal sapphire exhibition case back, and the components are decorated with Perlage, Geneva stripes and thermally blue screws. In addition, the rotor is individually numbered and has the engraved Wyern creature at its centre. This self-winding movement boasts 25 jewels and a 46-hour power reserve. The LE5 is officially Chronometer certified by the COSC and delivered with the original certification.
Look at any watch magazine and you will see countless pilot chronographs on the market. Some cost only a few hundred pounds and represent exceptional value for money, whilst others, which we have reviewed in the past, can demand tens of thousands, especially when they are attached to a famous fighter pilot school in America.

At Watches and Wonders this year, we passed comment on the lack of imagination with some of these designs; however, once again, Brellum has bucked the trend and gone above and beyond to come out with (yet another) stunning watch that totally fits in with the pilot chronograph genre. We’d love to get a Brellum in for review at some point and will keep trying.
