This charming vintage Vulcain Cricket packs a loud chirp. Vulcain were the first company to produce a mechanical wristwatch alarm, and this Cricket is a fine example of that. The gold-plated case is 34mm wide and as with all watches of the time uses an acrylic crystal.

The dial is in excellent condition, with a silver sunburst finish and elegant applied golden markers. Paired with a simple handset, this gives the watch an elegant look that makes it perfect for formal occasions.

The movement used is the Vulcain Cal. 120, the brand’s first alarm movement. This manually wound movement has 17-jewels, beats at 18,000 bph, and has a 42-hour power reserve. In addition to this the alarm will ring for 25 seconds.

To set the alarm, the watch must be wound. You then pull out the pusher at two o'clock and pull out the main crown. The crown can then be rotated to set the alarm, with the fourth, black hand as an indicator, to the desired time. Simply push the crown back in and the alarm is set.

What To Know

  • The case is in good overall condition but has some scratches and dents that are to be expected on a watch of this age.
  • Due to its age, the watch should no longer be considered water-resistant.

About The Brand

Vulcain was founded in 1858 in Switzerland by the Ditisheim brothers. It was initially known as simply Manufacture Ditisheim before the name was changed to Vulcain in 1900. It wasn’t until World War II that Vulcain started to make wristwatches, having solely made pocket watches beforehand.

This vintage watch has been checked to ensure its authenticity and that it is running and keeping good time.

Reviewing the Sinn 140 St Space Chronograph

It may be one of the lesser-known space watches, but the Sinn 140 gives the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch a run for its money
