Whilst Omega has produced many watches with conventional designs, it’s a brand that’s not been afraid to release more quirky pieces. This vintage 1969 Omega Constellation Ref. 168.019 is one such example.

The 34mm steel cushion case has some interesting lines thanks to a stepped bezel and curving lugs. The shape also helps the watch wear larger, so though it’s slim enough to slip under a cuff, it won’t look tiny on the wrist.

The dial is simply stunning. It has a silvered linen texture that catches the light from any angle. This is the defining feature of the watch but the other elements are also incredibly refined. The applied indices are all bevelled and the day/date window also has a polished applied border. The cherry on the cake is the applied Omega logo and Constellation Star, which set the whole dial off perfectly.

But the real testament to the quality of this Omega Constellation is the movement inside. It’s an Omega cal.751 automatic movement that has 24-jewels and beats at a rate of 19,800 bph. This movement was a certified chronometer and was adjusted to 5 positions and to account for temperature changes. At the time this would have been one of the most accurate watches on the market.

What To Know

  • The case is covered in the minor scuffs and scratches expected of a watch that’s over 60 years old.
  • Due to its age, the watch should no longer be considered water-resistant.
  • The watch will no longer be accurate to chronometer standards.
