Introducing The New Geckota G-02 Steel Edition…

A new G-02 has arrived in the Geckota collection - but you’ll need to be quick as there are only 75 examples of each!

Originally introduced a few years ago now, the Geckota G-02 has become a flagship model alongside the C-01 and G-01. Since it first arrived in the collection there have been a few evolutions of the watch including various bracelet options, a new movement choice (the PT5000) as well as a more recent GMT variation. But recently the range has grown even more with another brand new model introducing some exciting tweaks to the design in a very limited way…

Everything you love is still here

So, here it is. Say hello to the latest Geckota G-02, the Steel Edition. Quite a few things have been updated here but to start with the fundamentals are the same.

The watch is still 40mm wide, with a 13.5mm thickness and a lug to lug distance of 47mm. The watch still offers 200m of water resistance, comes with a sapphire crystal with AR coating as well as keeping things clean as a simple three-hander with the added bonus of the date at the 3’oclock position. Usability and comfort are important features of the G-02. It was important to hit a sweet spot when it comes to sizing so many different wrist sizes can enjoy the pieces.

The new G-02 Steel Edition is powered by the well-received and solid PT5000 movement. This offering coming out of China is a clone of the ETA 2824-2 with some seriously impressive accolades including becoming China’s first watch movement to reach chronometer certification via Chronometer Observatory at Glashütte.

A new bezel and dial

The two most noticeably new features on the G-02 Steel is both the dial and bezel. First up the bezel is now a circular brushed stainless steel one with etched & inked indexes complete with a lume pip at twelve. The dial is a new space-age style fumé one previously seen mainly on watches like the Geckota G-01. This has been combined with a vertically brushed finish as well as matching the colour to the 0-15 bezel indexes.

Other new dial features include silver hands and indexes, a new logo font to match other models in the range such as the E-01 Generation 2 and the G-02 GMT, this cleaner font aims to bring out that vintage tool watch DNA that is so desirable.

As this is a diving watch lume is, of course, included throughout the dial, hands and bezel. Superluminova glows blue on the G-02 Steel Editions to ensure maximum legibility when the lights turn off.

Case and bracelet changes

Finally, there are a few more external changes in the form of a new finish and new bracelet. Previously the G-02 case was a mixture of polished and brushed surfaces. This naturally matched the clean, elegant look of the watch, but for the Steel Edition there is a real emphasis on the tool watch side of diving watches. This is why the Steel models all have fully brushed cases. The multi-faceted case still appears, but this time it has been toned down in a purposeful way.

Right from launch day the G-02 Steel Edition comes fitted to a jubilee style bracelet. This polished and brushed bracelet picks up on the polished hands and indexes on the dial and combines them with the brushing found on the case. The curved ends for this strap are completely solid and have been designed to fit the G-02 case perfectly, so you’re really getting a complete package.

The G-02 Steel Edition is now available in either blue or orange with a special launch price of just £379. Oh, there are also only 75 individually numbered examples of each model available so if you like what you’re looking at you’ll need to act fast.
