Months of patiently waiting for the season to start paid off for motorsport ambassador Scott McKenna as this weekend he finally got behind the wheel of a new car for a whole new championship.
Fuelled by an Eighty One Power Drink, Scott McKenna now finds himself wrestling with a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in the Carrera Cup GB Championship for Redline Racing. With nearly 500 horsepower, this is quite the step up from his Ginetta GT5 days of 2019, but Scott proved he has what it takes with an impressive performance in race week 1.
Race 1 Donington Park
Some solid work in qualifying meant Scott started race 1 on Sunday in P4. The solid work continued for Scott throughout the race as after 23 laps of consistent work resulted in him crossing the line still in P4. Most of the drama was reserved for P1 and P2 as Harry King and Josh Webster traded places with Webster eventually crossing the line in P1.
“It was a fantastic first race, P1 rookie, P3 in pro class so some great points collected. No damage to the car and no risks taken is always a positive. We have pole for race 2 so I’ll be doing everything in my power to make sure we get a good result. With strong competitors both rookie and experienced drivers, it will require a lot of defence to get the job done”.
Race 2 Donington Park
With an Eighty One Power Drink doing its work, Scott was prepared and focused for race 2. Starting on pole he certainly had a big job ahead of him. Scott had a great start to the race and performed extremely well. As did the winner of the Porsche Scholarship Harry King who overtook Scott early on. King went on to build his lead throughout the race, but this didn’t dishearten Scott as he applied his expert defence skill to ensure he crossed the line in P2 bringing home the first silverware of the season.
“Who would have thought we’d end up with a podium on our first Carrera Cup weekend? I'm so relieved and happy for everyone that we were able to bring it home in P2. A phenomenal race. Sure, we have some work to do to ensure we win the championship but that is what it is all about. I’m over the moon!”
An exciting and fantastic start for Scott and the team as he has collected a good amount of points heading into weekend 2. We’d like to congratulate Scott McKenna, the Eighty One Power Drink / Racing Heroes and the Redline Racing teams on a brilliant result. Who’s ready for Brands Hatch?Explore Scott's weekend below...
