A new limited edition Tag Heuer plus a special Aston Martin equals a whole lot of fun...

It seems more and more that limited edition watches are coming to the market. This is something I personally really enjoy as it gives collectors the opportunity to become apart of something that is exclusive and even more special.

With this in mind, Tag Heuer has worked closely with their partners at Aston Martin to create not only an exclusive Tag Heuer Carrera Aston Martin Special Edition but also a Tag Heuer Edition of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Oh, and if you put your name down for the car, you'll end up getting the watch for 'free'...

Let's start with the watch.

The Tag Heuer Carrera Aston Martin Special Edition - Tag Heuer Press

Appropriately called the Tag Heuer DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02, this timepiece is essentially a more aggressive, even sportier modern Carrera with a new case material, strap and large size to match. Coming in at 45mm wide this Carrera combines both black and red colours throughout the watch and strap along with a forged carbon fibre lugs and bezel.

Aston Martin branding can be seen throughout the watch both on the bezel and subdial, further emphasising this collaboration between two huge companies in their respected industries. The dial on the watch has an overall stealthy look to it with a blacked out Tag Heuer logo, darken steel hands and indices as well as very industrial looking sub-dials.

The Tag Heuer Carrera Aston Martin Special Edition with it's hexagonal Aston style grill dial - Tag Heuer Press

These features of the watch all sit on a semi skeletonised dial which looks to pay homage to the hexagonal grill found on the DBS Superleggera. The strap the watch is fitted to is also comparative to the Aston Martin. A rubber strap with leather inlay is much like a tough, aggressive exterior of a vehicle matched with the soft, comfortable quality interior of an Aston...

Now, the car...

Once you take a look at the car, the colour scheme of the watch starts to make sense. The car itself features a more stealthy aggressive look with an exclusive Monaco Black paint used. of course, the car is dripping in carbon fibre both inside and out. All badges and edges of the car have been blackout further complimenting the cars new look.

The interior of the DBS Superleggera looks insane... - Tag Heuer Press

The interior of the car clearly is a perfect match for the exterior and of course the watch that'll be strapped to the wrist of the driver. Forged carbon, red stitching details and quilted racing seats can be found in this special edition, resulting in a car that looks insane. A fantastic detail of the car is the Tag Heuer logo stitched into the seats. It's a small edition, but it really adds a finishing touch to the car.

The rear of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Tag Heuer LE is equally as attractive as the front... - Tag Heuer Press

Under the bonnet, the car remains the same as the 'standard' DBS Superleggera with a 5.2-litre V12 engine outputting 715 bhp, 663 pound-feet of torque all to the rear wheels. The result? 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph...

The standard DBS Superleggera is currently available for £225,000 however if you want to own one of these limited models and the watch, you'll need to fork out £295,000...

Only 50 of these will be made, so I would assume your money would be pretty safe if you decide you need one.

Thoughts on these new products

Cross marketing of products is nothing new, especially for the watch and motorsports world, however, this collaboration is one I can really get behind. Both companies have rich, full histories with prestige and quality of workmanship at the heart of their products. It's great to see Tag Heuer really invest the time into their valuable partnership with Aston Martin, to bring their audiences something special.

In the past, I have found Aston Martin, although very appealing, quite samey and safe with their designs. However, in the past few years, they've really worked on bringing the brand right into the 21st century with aggressive, modern, competitive looking models that easily rival the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren.

Let's hope it's not a long wait until we get some hands-on time with the watch, and if possible, a closer look at the new DBS...
