Articles Watch Straps

Back in August, we took our readers behind the scenes of how our premium collection of leather watch straps is made and what makes the range so special. As you might remember, each leather strap in this collection has undergone over 100 stages of production to take them from leather hide to finished strap, all of which have been completed meticulously by hand, at LIC’s family-run workshop in Ostend, Belgium.

Today, we will be looking at some of our newest additions to the collection, discussing the types of leather and tanning processes used to create these luxury leather watch straps.

Leuven

Leuven Leather Watch Strap

The Leuven strap is made using horse leather that’s been vegetable tanned with leaves and olive tree bark, giving the strap a supple grain while making the leather more durable. The Leuven strap has been incredibly popular amongst our customers, which is why we have extended the range with new earthy colourways. As you can see the natural rich tones pair perfectly with the brass accents of the Tudor Black Bay for an effortlessly formal look.

Veurne

Veurne Padded Ostrich Leather Handmade Watch Strap

The Veurne strap uses the finest Ostrich leather, a highly distinct leather that’s recognisable for its raised crowns on the hide. Ostrich leather is one of the most precious and expensive leathers to process and is favoured within the high-fashion industry for its softness and durable qualities.

Durbuy

Durbuy Ostrich Leg Handmade Watch Strap

Unlike the Veurne ostrich strap, the Durbuy strap uses the leg of the ostrich, more specifically combining the shin and calf of the ostrich. This leather gives the Durbuy an intricate and incredibly expressive design that can be compared to crocodile leather. This particular leather is highly durable with an exotic pattern that becomes patinated and embellished over time. The deep grooves and textures of both the Veurne and Durbuy straps provide a beautiful contrast against the flat monochromatic look of the Omega Speedmaster.

Patina

The Patina Calf strap uses hand-worked calf leather that gas been tanned with higher amounts of oil, giving this leather strap an aged and earthy look that stands out from more traditional calf watch straps. The patina of the leather pairs beautifully with a vintage timepiece, feeling luxuriously soft even when first worn.
