In 1999, A. Lange & Söhne revolutionised short-time measurement complications with the introduction of the Datograph, featuring a newly developed in-house calibre and an innovative dial design. Now, marking its 25th anniversary, the iconic chronograph makes a triumphant return as the limited edition Datograph Up/Down model in 18-carat white gold, boasting a stunning blue dial and restricted to just 125 exquisite timepieces.

Twenty-five years ago, A. Lange & Söhne unveiled the Datograph, a milestone achievement in watchmaking that set new standards for precision and craftsmanship. Debuting a mere five years after the launch of the brand's inaugural collection, the Datograph introduced the calibre L951.1, the company's first-ever chronograph movement. This ground-breaking mechanism, meticulously crafted in the Saxon manufacture, integrated a column-wheel chronograph with a flyback function, a precisely jumping minute counter, and the iconic Lange outsize date.

From its inception, the Datograph embodied A. Lange & Söhne's relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence, serving as the catalyst for a series of 13 ground-breaking models featuring chronograph functions. Notably, the introduction of the calibre L951.6 in the Datograph Up/Down in 2012 marked a significant advancement in the lineage, incorporating a power-reserve indicator and extending the power reserve to 60 hours, further solidifying its reputation as a pinnacle of precision engineering.

Designed to deliver timekeeping precision akin to aviation standards, the Datograph Up/Down boasts a flyback mechanism, precisely jumping minute counter, outsize date, and power-reserve indicator, distinguishing it as a class-leading chronograph.

The flyback feature enables swift consecutive time measurements with minimal delay, allowing for quick stopping, resetting, and restarting of the chronograph, reminiscent of early aviation practices. Meanwhile, the precise jumping minute counter seamlessly advances to the next interval precisely when the chronograph seconds hand completes a full 60-second rotation. The "Up/Down" designation refers to the power reserve indicator, providing information on the remaining power reserve within the watch's 60-hour duration.

Exhibiting refined sophistication with a clear and elegant design, the Datograph Up/Down captivates with its harmonious dial layout. The twin date aperture positioned below 12 o'clock forms an equilateral triangle with the subsidiary dials for small seconds at 9 o'clock and the precisely jumping minute counter at 3 o'clock, ensuring optimal readability and instant recognition.

In its latest iteration, the Datograph Up/Down introduces a captivating blue dial for the first time, creating a striking contrast with rhodium-coloured subsidiary dials, luminous hands, and baton hour markers, elevating its aesthetic allure.

At its core beats the manually wound calibre L951.6, comprising 451 meticulously crafted components assembled twice and impeccably finished in typical Lange fashion. This calibre, characterized by technical prowess, intricate architecture, and exceptional finishing, sets new benchmarks in engineering and aesthetics.

Presently available in three distinct model versions, the Datograph Up/Down retains its timeless dimensions, featuring a case diameter of 41.0mm and a height of 13.1mm.  Alongside the limited edition white gold model with a blue dial, restricted to just 125 pieces, the collection includes variants in platinum with a black dial and pink gold with a black dial, offering enthusiasts a diverse range of options to suit their preferences.

For enthusiasts seeking the epitome of precision engineering and horological excellence, the Datograph Up/Down represents a timeless masterpiece that combines innovation, sophistication, and artistry.
